After Race Run: Operation Jack Half-Marathon

Just finished my 1 mile recover run. The races yesterday was great. I enjoyed is so much. I ran a solid steady pace the whole time. I told my brothers and buddy, Martin, that I don’t think I’ve ran a better race in my life. It was a great race. I was pleased with everything.

I like the course change from last year. And the medals are just as great as last year.

Thanks to Train 4 Autism for putting this race on AND a big thanks to Sam Felsenfeld (@operationjack) for starting this race.

This will be a race that I will be at every year.

Christmas presents from Olga (my girlfriend). These are the best gifts. 2 things that can really used but would not have ever asked for them. Thanks for the great presents babe. #christmastime #trainingjournal

Wednesday Run: Easy 6 Miles

Today was a nice easy run. I have been recovering this whole week. My goal for this has been to just run 6 miles a day at a nice easy pace. I feel like if I do that then I would get a good amount of mileage in but with a lot less soreness and stress.

I enjoyed this run. I did an out and back, 3 miles out and then 3 miles back. The street I ran on is one of my favorite 6 miles, out and back, because on the way back it is a slight downhill all the way. That makes for an enjoyable run.

Here is my stats from dailymile, strava, and garmin stats:

MindFX Energy Giveaway & Product Review

This will be my first Giveaway and first Product review. I hope to be able to do a product review every other week.

This is a product review on the energy drink that I received in the mail today. I have been trying to find a good solid drink for endurance athletes, like myself. I have been greatly impressed with MindFX Energy thus far. Hope you like my review.
ALSO don't forget to take part in the giveaway. I will be giving away a 3pack of MindFX Energy.
***Comment: What is your favorite pre-workout drink?***
Why MindFX Energy?
MindFX Energy is great for athletes or runners that need an extra push during a workout run. It can help runners and athletes break through the so called "wall."

What is MindFX Energy?
MindFX Energy is a healthy energy drink for endurance athletes. "It is an exceptionally innovative herbal formula designed to assist the body’s blood flow delivering essential nutrients to the brain for sustained peak alertness and body performance*" (MindFX Website). MindFX Energy gives Essential Nutrients for a well balanced mind and it increases blood and oxygen flow to the brain. It also gives energy for increased alertness and better focus and concentration during activities (MindFX Website).

What do I like about MindFX Energy?
I like the fact that it was specifically designed for athletes and active people. MindFX Energy is also low in calories, only 35cal per serving. It tastes great. I can't wait for other flavors to come out. I also like that it gives you energy, focus, and essential vitamins.

Why would I recommend MindFX Energy?
MindFX Energy is a great product. It is very worth buying. The price is near the same price as most of your other energy drinks, however, MindFX Energy is much better for you. This is a product that I would consistently buy and use because it's great for endurance athletes and the pricing is very reasonable.

Wednesday Run: "Back at it!"

It feels great to be back running after taking 2 days off. I took 2 days off from running and working out because for the last two weeks my ankle was hurting and really sore. It was getting better last week, so I made the decision to take 2 full days off to rest.

Today my ankle felt great!

Here is a little more info on my Wednesday run.

VIVOBAREFOOT NEO TRAIL [SHOE REVIEW]

A big thanks to my brother, Alex @alexbridgeforth, for letting me do a shoe review for his blog. Check out his blog at http://runningaddiction.tumblr.com/

VIVOBAREFOOT Neo Trail [Shoe Review]

By @JABridgeforth,
I have used about 8 pairs of shoes, two of those shoes being trail shoes. I would say these are my best all-around trail shoes. They have a great sole that makes running on rocks or hard surfaces much easier. Just like my other Vivobarefoot shoes, they have a Zero Drop from heel to toe. These are probably my second or third favorite shoe that I have.
I run in these shoes only on trails, because these shoes, I think, would wear out too fast on the road. If I know that the trail is going to be a hard rocky trail I will run in these over my New Balance MT10.  My Neo Trail is definitely my go to trail shoe.

Comment: Have you tried a zero drop shoe?

I would give this a 9 out of 10 for a trail shoe because there is a few things they could do to make it better, but it definitely is one of the best trail shoes out there, I believe. It’s not really a specialized trail shoe, designed for a specific type of trail, which is something I like because then I can wear it just about on any trail and my feet will not get torn up. I just would not recommend this shoe for the road at all, unless it’s a short amount of distance (.25-.5 miles).
I have a put about 57 miles on these shoes. I generally will run with this shoe anytime I run on a trail. I have put a majority of those miles while running at Mission Trails, San Diego.
I have liked this shoe since the day I got it. I remember going for a run around a lake and just loved it. I did notice the zero drop, which I loved. I actually ran my first trail race in these. By the way, I got 4th place in that race. I haven’t ran in these shoes that recently, but that’s because I normally just run around my neighborhood, which means a lot of road running. The only thing I’ve noticed is that the toe box is a little skinny but that’s probably because it’s a trail shoe. This is favorite shoe of mine. It has a zero drop from heel to toe.
I would compare this shoe, well, to my only other trail shoe the New Balance MT10. I love my MT10’s as well. They are both good for trails. The MT10 feels lighter on the foot and with less protection than the Neo Trail, which makes for a great shoe to run on softer trails. Whereas, the Neo Trail is better for hard rocky trails. Both are great shoes.

The look is very neutral. The colors of the shoe definitely go together. I’m not a fan of big bright colored shoes; however I do like them, so this is why I like the colors of the shoe. The way the shoe is designed in the upper makes for a perfect fit.
I would compare the looks of this shoe to my other Vivobarefoot shoes. My Vivobarefoot Neo are a black and white shoe. It’s a very simple design with very simple colors. Both the Neo Trail and Neo have a very simple color and look to them, which is one reason I like them both.
They are super comfortable. There is not cushion in weird places. These shoes are something that I could wear for hours.
I have never got any blisters or had any other major issues with these shoes. They seem to fit pretty well. Sometimes my big toe gets a little bit sore but I think that might be because I just have a huge big toe.
A lot of other reviewers seem to really this shoe. They love the fact that it was specifically designed for trails.

The outsole is quite interesting. I had never seen anything like it before I got this shoe. It’s got 4.5mm lugs/spikes all around on the bottom of the shoe. This design really does help on the trail.
This outsole was designed specifically to run on the trail. It is a great design. This design is something that I have not seen on other trail shoes. The outsole makes running on small rocks much easier.

Specs
  • Heel-toe drop – 0mm (Zero Drop)
  • Weight – 9.2oz
  • Stack height – 7mm
It feels great and is does what it was exactly designed and said to do.
This is my overall favorite trail. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a great minimal/barefoot trail shoe. It is a very protective shoe but still provides that barefoot feel. I would say it is one of the best trail shoes out there on the market.

Comment: Have you tried a zero drop shoe?

Runnergirl Training: Stroke Myths

Runnergirl Training: Stroke Myths: Check out common stroke myths here

Racing Update: Coyote 10k, Low Tide Ride & Stride, MCRD Freedom Run

I'd like to start out by saying thanks to all the new people that are following my blog. I hope that you all like it and will spread it on to your friends too.

With that said,
In this blog post I am going to take a quick look at my last 3 races that I have not posted about yet. These races were motivating for me.

Date: June 17, 2012
Distance: 10k
Time: 49:45
Place Overall: 4th
Division Place (20-29): 1st

This was an exciting race. I think I may have started out a little too fast. I was in 2nd place overall until about 1.5 miles. At about 1.5 miles there was starting to be some hills. This slowed me down a bit. I got passed 3 times which put me in 5th place. Then at the turn around (3.1 miles) I decided to just give it my best. I pushed my self and passed a runner within the last mile and got 4th place overall. I was very satisfied.

Date: June 24, 2012
Distance: 8.2 Miles
Time: 58:14
Place Overall: 21st
Division Place: 15/181

This race was a good one for me. It truly tested my running ability. I started out at a 6:30 pace which was a little fast. When I realized I was going to fast I slowed down, and just began to run my race. When I finished this race I was really joyful because I had shattered my time from last year. The only down fall for me was running on the sand. I don't know if it was the shoes I was wearing or if it was the sand. I ran in the NB Minimus Road. Maybe, I should have ran in the NB Minimus Trail like I did last year. I just didn't get go turnover in this race, but I was still happy with the race that I did run.

Date: June 29, 2012
Distance: 5k
Time: 18:55
Place Overall: 26th
Division Place (19-24): 3rd

I really enjoyed this race. I came into this race with high expectations. I knew I had the ability PR in this race. This was a race that I had been looking forward too. I ran with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength. And when I finished I had nothing but joy in my heart. I not only PR'd but I beat my old PR by over 1 minute. I could not have asked for a better race.

Thanks for reading my post.

Running With Joy by Ryan Hall

I just finished reading Ryan Hall's book.
This was such a good book to read. The way its set up is easy to follow while reading.
He goes into depth about different types of training runs and anything that has to do with running.
The part that I liked the best was the ending when he talks about the marathon. Him describing his race experience is very inspiring. It also is a clear example that we do need to trust in God in everything.
I would recommend this book to anyone.
Thanks,

I ran in this race with my older brother Alex Bridgeforth (@alexbridgeforth). My other older brother Keith Bridgeforth (@newnation) ran the half-marathon.

This race started out like any normal race, too fast! I should have started out slower because I guess I did not realize how much of a big hill was in this race. I feel like I was going up hill for like the whole race.

I really got down on myself at about 15 miles. It was going good up until this point and then I felt like I couldn't go anymore. I honestly felt like just stopping and giving up. However, I knew I couldn't give up so I kept pressing on and pressing on. I would walk a little then jog a little. I soon made 20 miles. This is when I start to feel good. I had my head phones in and a worship song came started playing and I could just feel the spirit of God in me. I believe, that without God, I would have given up. He helped me finish this race.

This was a race that I truly felt God while running. After the 20 mile mark the race seemed to just by that much faster.

I finished this race with such a Joy that I honestly can't put into words.

Thanks for reading,
You can be great! Trust in Him!

Blog Update and Act Today! 5k/10k Race

Well…

A lot has been going, which is why I have not been blogging lately.
I will be updating more frequently about my training and races, important things happening in my life, and anything that I feel would be great to blog about.

Today I am posting about one of my recent races. It was a great race. In a few days I will blog about my most recent race experience, the marathon.

When: April 7, 2012
Where: Mission Bay, San Diego, CA

Story about this race was I am just on facebook and see an ad on the side say “Act Today! 5k/10k Run/Walk in Mission Bay.” So me being me, I click on it. What caught my eye, however, was that it was a race for Autism awareness. I signed within a few days of hearing about it. I tell my other brothers and they decide to run in it too. My older brothers, however, drove out the night before from Phoenix, AZ. Races, for some reason, always brings our family together. We all raced in the 5k, wearing our signature “I Am Team Bridgeforth” tech t-shirts (picture below).

This was a very fun race. The weather was perfect. Glad to see a lot of people racing this race. It makes me joyful to see people making a difference. We are all called to make a difference.

John 14:6
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.(1)

Faith

I was just on Facebook reading up on stuff and then I came across something very interesting. One of my friends posted it and so I read it. It it is very powerful. Please take the time to read it. We should all be like the student and stand up for our Faith in God.

Professor : You are a Christian, aren’t you, son ?
Student : Yes, sir.
Professor: So, you believe in GOD ?
Student : Absolutely, sir.
Professor : Is GOD good ?
Student : Sure.
Professor: Is GOD all powerful ?
Student : Yes.
Professor: My brother died of cancer even though he prayed to GOD to heal him. Most of us would attempt to help others who are ill. But GOD didn’t. How is this GOD good then? Hmm?
(Student was silent.)
Professor: You can’t answer, can you ? Let’s start again, young fella. Is GOD good?
Student : Yes.
Professor: Is satan good ?
Student : No.
Professor: Where does satan come from ?
Student : From … GOD …
Professor: That’s right. Tell me son, is there evil in this world?
Student : Yes.
Professor: Evil is everywhere, isn’t it ? And GOD did make everything. Correct?
Student :Yes
Professor: So who created evil ?
(Student did not answer.)
Professor: Is there sickness? Immorality? Hatred? Ugliness? All these terrible things exist in the world, don’t they?
Student : Yes, sir.
Professor: So, who created them ?
(Student had no answer.)
Professor: Science says you have 5 Senses you use to identify and observe the world around you. Tell me, son, have you ever seen GOD?
Student : No, sir.
Professor: Tell us if you have ever heard your GOD?
Student : No ,sir.
Professor: Have you ever felt your GOD, tasted your GOD, smell your GOD? Have you ever had any sensory perception of GOD for that matter?
Student : No, sir. I’m afraid I haven’t.
Professor: Yet you still believe in Him?
Student : Yes.
Professor : According to Empirical, Testable, Demonstrable Protocol, Science says your GOD doesn’t exist. What do you say to that, son?
Student : Nothing. I only have my faith.
Professor: Yes, faith. And that is the problem Science has.
Student : Professor, is there such a thing as heat?
Professor: Yes.
Student : And is there such a thing as cold? Professor: Yes.
Student : No, sir. There isn’t.
(The lecture theatre became very quiet with this turn of events.)
Student : Sir, you can have lots of heat, even more heat, superheat, mega heat, white heat, a little heat or no heat. But we don’t have anything called cold. We can hit 458 degrees below zero which is no heat, but we can’t go any further after that. There is no such thing as cold. Cold is only a word we use to describe the absence of heat. We cannot measure cold. Heat is energy. Cold is not the opposite of heat, sir, just the absence of it.
(There was pin-drop silence in the lecture theater.)
Student : What about darkness, Professor? Is there such a thing as darkness?
Professor: Yes. What is night if there isn’t darkness?
Student : You’re wrong again, sir. Darkness is the absence of something. You can have low light, normal light, bright light, flashing light. But if you have no light constantly, you have nothing and its called darkness, isn’t it? In reality, darkness isn’t. If it is, were you would be able to make darkness darker, wouldn’t you?
Professor: So what is the point you are making, young man ?
Student : Sir, my point is your philosophical premise is flawed.
Professor: Flawed ? Can you explain how?
Student : Sir, you are working on the premise of duality. You argue there is life and then there is death, a good GOD and a bad GOD. You are viewing the concept of GOD as something finite, something we can measure. Sir, Science can’t even explain a thought. It uses electricity and magnetism, but has never seen, much less fully understood either one. To view death as the opposite of life is to be ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist as a substantive thing.
Death is not the opposite of life: just the absence of it. Now tell me, Professor, do you teach your students that they evolved from a monkey?
Professor: If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process, yes, of course, I do.
Student : Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes, sir?
(The Professor shook his head with a smile, beginning to realize where the argument was going.)
Student : Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution at work and cannot even prove that this process is an on-going endeavor. Are you not teaching your opinion, sir? Are you not a scientist but a preacher?
(The class was in uproar.)
Student : Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the Professor’s brain?
(The class broke out into laughter. )
Student : Is there anyone here who has ever heard the Professor’s brain, felt it, touched or smelt it? No one appears to have done so. So, according to the established Rules of Empirical, Stable, Demonstrable Protocol, Science says that you have no brain, sir. With all due respect, sir, how do we then trust your lectures, sir?
(The room was silent. The Professor stared at the student, his face unfathomable.)
Professor: I guess you’ll have to take them on faith, son.
Student : That is it sir … Exactly ! The link between man & GOD is FAITH. That is all that keeps things alive and moving."
Forward this to increase knowledge … or FAITH. By the way, the student was Einstein.

Don't let someone tell you our God isn't real. He is our creator and our Lord. We need to have Faith in him.

What Motivates You?

We all have something that Motivates us. Everyday we do certain things. But why do we do them? What is the purpose? Is there necessarily a reason?

We all have a lot of motivations and all have a lot of motivators. We need to really take a look at what motivates us and see it if is helping or hurting us.

Recently, I ran in a Marathon and to say the least I was not prepared. Me and my brothers struggled through the race but we all finished. We were determined to finish what we started. Our motivation to do this Marathon was to do something that we've never done before and to accomplish something that many people have never done.

One of the people that really motivates me is Ryan Hall. Ryan Hall is the Fastest American born Marathon Runner. He is very motivating.
Here is an Article that I read recently about him. It is very inspiring.
..."I'm not afraid to fail, so I'm not afraid to take risks," says Hall, who was 10th in the 2008 Olympic marathon...

San Diego Resolution 5k and 15k Race 2012

Today's race was very fun. It was very well put together. The chip timing was great. Thank you Gemini Timing.  It was definitely one of the better races that I have ran in. I ran this race with three of my four brothers. Our running name is "I Am... Team Bridgeforth." I tried to get first out of the four of us but my younger brother Quentin (pictured on the right below) finished 6 seconds ahead of me. Check out our race times at http://www.geminitiming.com/posts/resolution-run/. What a great race this was. See you out there on the course.
